According to the initial statement at the police station, at around 9:00 p.m. on January 22, 2019, while going to work and drinking at an acquaintance's house near Bridge 283, National Highway 80 in Binh Thuan Hamlet, Binh Son Commune, Hon Dat District, because he wanted to visit a friend's house in Kinh 2, My Thuan Commune (Hon Dat), Tha called Mr. Lam to pick him up. Although it was dark, because Tha was a regular customer, Mr. Lam accepted.
When they met, the two agreed on a price of 70,000 VND. When they arrived, because no friend was home, Tha asked Lam to take him somewhere else. When they reached the middle of the field, Lam asked Tha to pay 170,000 VND for the previous distance and claimed that he had mistakenly quoted the price between day and night (70,000 VND for day and 170,000 VND for night). Tha did not agree, so Lam stopped the car and demanded to leave Tha in the middle of the field, then the two sides argued and cursed at each other.
Lam pulled out a knife from his jacket pocket and attacked Tha. Tha dodged it, grabbed the knife, and stabbed Lam. After that, Lam got in the car and tried to run away, but he was still cursing. Angry, Tha took the knife and ran to cut Lam's throat.
Seeing that the victim was dead, Tha pushed the body down the canal and took Lam's red and black Future motorbike with license plate 95C1-13055 and drove towards Chau Doc to escape to Cambodia. On the way, when crossing Khanh An ferry about 7 km, Tha unlocked the saddle and the alarm on the motorbike went off. Afraid of being discovered, Tha left the motorbike there and fled to Cambodia.
After more than 1 month of hiding, at around 1:00 a.m. on March 2, 2019, Tha was arrested by the Investigation Police Department of Kien Giang Provincial Police in coordination with the Cambodian Police while he was gambling at Crow Casino (bordering Thailand) in PoiPet town, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, Cambodia.
It is known that in 2011, Tha was sentenced to 7 years in prison for murder and had just been released, but now he continues to commit crimes.
