After killing his friend, Nuol left the scene, called the victim's wife to ask for burial, then returned to his hometown and dug a tunnel under his old mother's bed to hide from the police.
On August 19, the People's Court of Ba Ria - Vung Tau sentenced Le Van Nuol (58 years old, from Soc Trang) to life in prison for murder and robbery; Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet (54 years old) to 15 months in prison for failure to report a crime.

According to the indictment, on the evening of May 29, 2015, Mr. Vo Van Hoang (57 years old) went to Nuol's hut to play and then slept there. Nuol borrowed a motorbike to go drink coffee and when he returned at midnight, he called his friend to get up and make tea. In the story, Nuol advised his friend to go back to his wife and children and not leave home again. An argument broke out, and the two used a teapot and a thermos to fight.
Mr. Hoang then took a 40cm long kitchen knife and slashed Nuol. After snatching the knife from his friend, Nuol slashed him many times, causing his death.
Nuol took the victim's car and fled. At the An Suong intersection (District 12, Ho Chi Minh City), he threw the murder knife on the side of the road and ran to his mother's house in Ke Sach district, Soc Trang. Seeing his blood-stained clothes, his nephew screamed and ran away. Nuol told everyone that he had a traffic accident on his way home to visit his hometown.
Nuol called Mrs. Nguyet - Mr. Hoang's wife - to confess that he "accidentally" killed his friend and asked her to take care of the burial. The killer also borrowed 5 million VND from her to escape. Then Nuol contacted his cellmate Nguyen Thanh Phong to ask him to take him to Cambodia to treat his wounds. Two weeks later, he wanted to go back to his mother's house to live, so he asked Phong to dig a tunnel under her bed to hide from the police.
After arresting Nuol, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provincial Police also arrested Ms. Nguyet. Nguyen Thanh Phong is on the run.
According to the investigation agency, in 1988, Nuol was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court of Hau Giang province for murder and robbery and served his sentence at T345 Prison in Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
At the trial, Nuol confessed that during the conversation, he advised Mr. Hoang not to have a relationship with another woman and not to neglect his family. Only when the victim hurt him did he kill her.
Ms. Nguyet said she was preparing to divorce Mr. Hoang but did not admit to having a relationship with her husband’s killer. She said she gave money to Nuol to pay him for working on her farm. However, her testimony was rejected by the presiding judge.
