Hungary won't let the EU sabotage the Ukraine peace deal

According to RIA Novosti, speaking on M1 TV channel, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto affirmed that Hungary will not allow liberal European leaders to interfere in agreements between Russia and the US, as well as the signing of a peace agreement on Ukraine.

“We will do everything at home and in Europe to ensure that this group of liberal leaders cannot prevent the creation of a US-Russia agreement and an important peace treaty,” said Foreign Minister Szijjarto.

Commenting on the critical statements of European politicians towards US President Donald Trump and the demands to allow Europe to sit at the negotiating table, Foreign Minister Szijjarto said that this was "the voice of European liberal politicians who are frustrated that they have spent the last three years pursuing a failed policy that is putting Europe in a very difficult situation".

“Of course, the Hungarian government, which is committed to peace, will continue to provide all possible support to Donald Trump and the future US administration so that they can conclude an agreement between the US and Russia as soon as possible, which will bring security and peace to all of Europe,” said Foreign Minister Szijjártó.

The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that the pro-war European leadership wants to make Europeans pay for the continuation of the conflict. Referring to the European aid package for Ukraine worth about 20 billion euros, Szijjarto explained that in this case Kiev will be able to avoid signing an unfavorable agreement at the peace talks.

Mr Szijjarto stressed that decisions on aid need to be unanimous, and Hungary would therefore block such initiatives.

"Europe is economically exhausted, Europe is security-wise exhausted, and now Europe needs money to restart the economy, to make life easier for its citizens. But that money is being given to Ukraine just to continue the war and simply make peace negotiations impossible. We do not accept this, and we will stop this," the Hungarian foreign minister affirmed.

In addition, Hungary will oppose an early extension of sanctions against Russia, while the EU insists that this decision must be made on February 24 instead of March 10. Mr. Szijjarto added that Budapest believes it is necessary to wait for the development of negotiations between Russia and the United States.
