According to RIA Novosti, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary will oppose Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) at the EU Summit, because he believes that the Hungarian people will have to bear the financial burden if Ukraine becomes a member, because it is necessary to finance Kiev in the post-war period. And Mr. Orban stressed that negotiations on this issue cannot take place until there are results of nationwide polls on whether Ukraine should join the EU or not.

"I do not support it and I ask Hungarians to stop it together. If Ukraine's membership in the EU is approved, another check will appear, which we will have to pay every year. Hungarian families cannot withstand the resulting financial pressure. It is estimated that each Hungarian household will pay an additional 500,000 forints (more than 1,200 euros) per year for Ukraine's membership. Countries can only be accepted into the European Union if all member states support it. And we do not support this. And I will block the corresponding proposals," Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a video message published on the social network Facebook.

The Hungarian prime minister noted that a referendum on Ukraine's accession to the EU is currently taking place in the country, and called on European leaders to "not even try to take a stance" before "the opinion of the Hungarian people is known".

In addition, the Hungarian Prime Minister opposes a common EU loan to re-arm Europe, but he supports a common fund, in which each country would contribute money from its budget, and Hungary is ready for this fund.

“The question is where the money will come from to re-arm Europe. Our proposal is that everyone should invest the necessary money from their own budgets. We should not take the necessary resources from joint loans from the European Union. We do not want to get involved in a joint debt with anyone... If someone wants to help, then let them invest money in a joint fund for European security,” Prime Minister Orban said.

He also clarified that Hungary supports the idea of European rearmament and is ready to contribute money to the common fund, because “the Hungarian budget is capable of doing this”.
