Headlights are an indispensable part of a car and its driver. To have the best visibility, we need to know how to adjust car headlights.
Typically, the switches for most car lights are integrated into a single control lever located to the left behind the steering wheel. To turn the lights on/off or change the lighting mode, simply rotate this knob or flick this lever.
How to turn headlights on/off
The headlight symbol on a car has several horizontal lines in the shape of a headlight. The headlight symbol is usually located on the outer cluster of the headlight control lever.
How to turn on the headlights: Turn the outer knob to the headlight symbol. When turned on, the car will default to low beam (low beam) mode.
To switch to high beam mode: Push the headlight control lever forward.
To switch to low beam mode: Push the headlight control lever backward.
How to flash the headlights: Gently push the headlight control lever backward 1-2 times.
To turn off the headlights: Turn the outer knob to the small circle symbol or the word OFF.

When the headlights are turned on, the taillights will also turn on, and the headlight icon on the dashboard behind the steering wheel will light up to signal the driver. Some high-end cars today are equipped with features such as automatic headlight on/off based on light sensors, automatic high/low beam switching, etc. If the car has these features, the driver does not need to adjust the lights manually.
How to turn turn signals on/off
To turn on the right turn signal: Push the light control lever upwards.
How to turn on the left turn signal: Push the light control lever downwards.
To turn off the turn signal: Push the control lever back to the center position.
How to turn the parking lights on/off
The daytime running lights are indicated by two small bulbs facing each other. These lights are usually located on the outer cluster of the headlight control lever, along with the headlights.
How to turn on the parking lights: Turn the outer knob to the parking light symbol.
To turn off the parking lights: Turn the outer knob to the "off" symbol.
How to turn fog lights on/off
The fog light symbol has three diagonal lines pointing downwards, quite similar to the headlight symbol but shorter and with an additional wavy line in the middle. The fog light symbol is usually located in the inner cluster, not in the same cluster as the headlights and daytime running lights.
How to turn on the fog lights: Turn the inner knob to the fog light symbol.
To turn off the fog lights: Turn the inner knob to the fog light off symbol.

Notes on using car headlights
When using car headlights, drivers should keep the following in mind:
Do not use high beam headlights in urban or residential areas. High beam headlights can easily cause glare and affect oncoming vehicles. When driving in urban areas, only use low beam headlights. The Traffic Law clearly stipulates this. According to the Road Traffic Law, using high beam headlights in residential areas will result in a fine of 800,000 to 1,000,000 VND.
High beam headlights should be used when driving on highways, suburban roads, and two-way roads with median dividers, as they provide better illumination and a wider field of vision. However, if you encounter oncoming traffic in very dark conditions, you should reduce your speed and switch to low beam to avoid dazzling the driver of the oncoming vehicle.
Flashing or blinking headlights should be used when requesting to overtake or change lanes, instead of honking. Since cars usually have their windows closed, it's difficult to hear them from a distance. Using flashing headlights instead of honking also reduces noise pollution.
If you see an oncoming vehicle flashing its headlights, you should check if your own headlights are on. Drivers often flash their headlights to remind each other of this.
