(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 18, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province) issued a decision declaring the African swine fever outbreak over in Quynh Hung commune.

Thirty days after the announcement of the African swine fever outbreak, no new outbreaks have occurred in Quynh Hung commune. Based on legal regulations, on the morning of April 18th, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district issued a decision declaring the African swine fever outbreak over in Quynh Hung commune and the threatened communes including Quynh Ngoc, Quynh Ba, Quynh Hong, Quynh Dien, and Quynh Tho.

Previously, on March 18, 2019, an outbreak of African swine fever occurred in Quynh Hung commune at the household of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh in Hamlet 11; a total of 5 pigs (including 1 sow and 4 market pigs) with a total weight of 302 kg had to be culled. On March 19, the District People's Committee issued a decision declaring an African swine fever outbreak in Quynh Hung commune.

The People's Committee of Quynh Luu district has announced the end of the African swine fever outbreak in Quynh Hung commune.

Following Quynh My commune, Quynh Hung commune is the second locality in Quynh Luu district to declare the African swine fever outbreak over. Thus, as of this time, Quynh Luu is the first district in Nghe An province to be free of African swine fever. Activities related to buying, selling, slaughtering, and consuming pork have returned to normal.

Mr. Dau Duc Nam, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Quynh Luu district, said that although the district has declared the African swine fever outbreak over, the situation is very complex and could reappear. Therefore, the district advises localities to proactively implement disease prevention measures; and to educate livestock farmers on hygiene in barns, regular disinfection, and lime application.

Quynh Luu district will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to inspect and monitor the buying, selling, and slaughtering activities at households in order to control and prevent the reappearance of African swine fever in the area.

According to the latest review as of March 2019, Quynh Luu district has 33 pig farms, 24 mixed livestock farms; and approximately 30 family farms raising pigs and mixed livestock... Quynh Luu currently has more than 38,000 pigs; including over 5,570 sows, 21,121 fattening pigs, and 11,123 piglets.
