Tan Ky District makes breakthroughs thanks to new projects.
The overall picture of Tan Ky district after nearly one term shows that the rural landscape has undergone many changes, socio-economic development has progressed, and cultural identity has been preserved, creating a vibrant and bright picture.
Homeland in renewal
Visiting Giai Xuan commune (Tan Ky district) this time of year, alongside the vast sugarcane fields about to be harvested and the high-income South American banana cultivation model, there is also a large-scale pig farming project with thousands of pigs by Nghia Binh Investment and Livestock Joint Stock Company that has just started operations.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Giai Xuan commune, said: "As a purely agricultural locality, the lives of the people mainly depend on farming and livestock raising, with sugarcane and timber plantations being the main crops. Therefore, when large projects come to invest in the area, the locality creates the most favorable conditions."
Specifically, when the district introduced the pig farming project of Nghia Binh Investment and Livestock Joint Stock Company to the locality, the authorities at all levels propagated and mobilized people to clear the land, attracting businesses to invest. In a short time, Giai Xuan completed the land clearance of more than 24 hectares, creating favorable conditions for the enterprise to invest in the largest pig farming project in the region.
“After the project becomes operational, it will create 70 local jobs with stable incomes. Furthermore, the project will provide impetus for the local area to develop in trade and services,” Mr. Vu Ngoc Son shared.
A project supported by the people.Tan KyOne of the direct beneficiaries is the Minh Anh Tan Ky Garment Factory, which commenced operations in 2021. Built on over 11 hectares of land, it boasts a total investment of over 700 billion VND and is projected to employ approximately 10,000 people. Before 2021, young people from Tan Ky often migrated to larger cities to work as factory workers. While this provided employment, the drawbacks included being far from family, having to rent accommodation, and incurring transportation costs, all of which negatively impacted their income. Since the Minh Anh Garment Factory began recruiting local workers, thousands of young people have found employment, enjoying transportation, being closer to their families, having more time to care for their children, reduced expenses, and more stable incomes.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan from Ky Tan commune shared: "Previously, I worked as a factory worker for a company in Binh Duong province. Every year, the travel expenses were high, and everything needed for daily life had to be bought or rented. Even with a salary of 9-10 million VND per month, I didn't have much left over, while being far from my family. Since the Minh Anh Tan Ky garment factory started operating, I returned to my hometown and applied for a job as a factory worker. Although the income is lower, I don't have to rent a room, and I can manage my own food, so I can save money each month."
One breakthrough area for Tan Ky is the investment in upgrading several key transportation routes. This includes the Huong-Phu-Hanh road, over 18 km long, connecting the center of Tan An commune to Huong Son, Phu Son, and Nghia Hanh districts, which received 148 billion VND in government investment. After more than two years of construction, over 15 km have been paved with asphalt, and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The Tan An to Dong Van road project, which received over 70 billion VND in government investment and commenced construction in June 2024, is currently being undertaken by contractors. This is one of three key projects selected by Tan Ky district to celebrate the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term.
In addition, in October 2024, with an investment of over 70 billion VND from the State, Tan Ky district started upgrading 9 inner-town roads in Tan Ky town, striving to complete them in 2025.
These new construction projects have truly transformed the face of the countryside, creating momentum for Tan Ky to break through and move forward, ensuring social welfare in the next phase.
Positive changes
In implementing the Resolution of the 21st District Party Congress, term 2020-2025, the Standing Committee and the Executive Committee of the District Party Committee have closely directed the preparation process and the implementation work in a proactive, systematic manner, in accordance with the actual conditions of the locality; regularly monitored, inspected, and tracked progress, promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of tasks related to socio-economic development, national defense, and security.
Comrade Bui Thanh Bao - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Tan Ky District Party Committee, said: In the first four years, the locality implemented the socio-economic development plan at the beginning of the term amidst a complex global and regional situation, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, fluctuations in the real estate market, natural disasters, etc.
However, thanks to the correct leadership of the Party committees at all levels, the efforts, endeavors, and decisive actions of the entire political system, the results achieved are noteworthy. The overall socio-economic picture of Tan Ky district, compared to the general level of the whole province, shows many positive signs. The average growth rate of the gross domestic product reached 8.85%, consistently ranking 6th or 7th among districts, cities, and towns, and leading among the western districts of Nghe An province. The economic structure has shifted in a positive direction (the proportion of agricultural sectors decreased by 2.7%, industry increased by 0.9%, and services increased by 1.8%). The average per capita gross domestic product growth in 2024 reached over 54 million VND, an increase of 16 million VND compared to 2020.
During the first four years of its term, Tan Ky district consistently strived to exceed its assigned revenue collection targets. Disbursement of public investment funds consistently ranked among the top districts and towns in the province. The annual disbursement rate of central and provincial budget public investment funds always reached 100% of the plan.
From 2020 to the present, the Tan Ky district has received approval from the Provincial People's Committee for the investment of 28 projects with a total registered investment of over 2,811 billion VND. Of these, 9 are high-tech agricultural projects, while the rest are industrial and mineral exploitation projects.
To date, several projects have become operational, creating many jobs and promoting local socio-economic development, such as the Minh Anh garment factory and the high-tech pig farm in Giai Xuan commune. In addition, the district consistently focuses on solutions to improve the investment and business environment, support businesses, and enhance the competitiveness of local governments.
Implementing the National Target Program for building new rural areas, Tan Ky district now has 17 communes that have achieved the new rural area status, including one commune, Nghia Dong, which has achieved advanced new rural area status, meeting the target set by the district congress resolution (17-18 new rural communes). The education and training sector continues to improve, maintaining excellent performance for nine consecutive years; political security, order, and social safety are maintained.
The rural economy has undergone many positive changes, people's lives are prosperous, the poverty rate has decreased rapidly, and the number of well-off households has increased significantly. Most of the targets set in the resolutions of the Party Congress at all levels have been achieved ahead of schedule, partly affirming the success in Tan Ky.
