Following the merger, Tan Ky district will have 20 commune-level administrative units.

According to Resolution No. 1243/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the rearrangement of district and commune-level administrative units in Nghe An province for the period 2023-2025, Tan Ky district will reduce 2 commune-level administrative units.

Specifically: The commune of Bình Hợp was established by merging the entire natural area of ​​13.79 km².2The commune of Nghia Hop has a population of 2,897 people and a total natural area of ​​41.72 km².2, with a population of 7,044 people, of Nghia Binh commune. After its establishment, Binh Hop commune has a natural area of ​​55.51 km².2and a population of 9,941 people.

Binh Hop commune borders Nghia Dung, Nghia Dong, Nghia Thai communes (Tan Ky district) and Nghia Dan, Quynh Luu, and Yen Thanh districts.

The commune of Hoàn Long was established by merging the entire natural area of ​​27.64 km².2The population of Tan Long commune is 2,666 people, and the total natural area is 11.30 km².2The commune of Nghĩa Hoàn has a population of 7,796 people. After its establishment, Hoàn Long commune has a natural area of ​​38.94 km².2and a population of 10,462 people.

Hoan Long commune borders the communes of Giai Xuan, Ky Son, Ky Tan, Nghia Dung, Nghia Phuc, Nghia Thai, and Tan Phu.

Thus, after the reorganization, from December 1, 2024, Tan Ky district will be reduced from 22 communes and towns to 20 administrative units at the commune level, including 19 communes and 1 town, namely: Ky Tan, Ky Son, Tan Huong, Nghia Hanh, Phu Son, Tien Ky, Dong Van, Nghia Phuc, Tan An, Huong Son, Tan Phu, Giai Xuan, Tan Hop, Tan Xuan, Nghia Thai, Nghia Dong, Nghia Dung, Binh Hop, Hoan Long and Tan Ky town.

Tan Ky District is geographically located bordered to the north by Nghia Dan and Quy Hop districts; to the south and southeast by Do Luong district; to the west and southwest by Anh Son district; and to the east and northeast by Yen Thanh and Nghia Dan districts. The district covers an area of ​​729.2 km² and has a population of over 150,000 people.
