PSG set a record of 89 points in the 2013-2014 season. They have repeated this achievement after 35 matches this season. Coach Laurent Blanc's team could even break that record by a significant margin if they win all three remaining matches.
Hosting Rennes at home, PSG created numerous chances but only opened the scoring early in the second half thanks to a solo effort from defender Maxwell. Ibrahimovic then scored two consecutive goals before Cavani sealed the 4-0 victory.
Ibrahimovic has scored 34 goals in Ligue 1 this season. This is the highest number of goals scored in a single national league season by a Swedish player.
Despite conceding four goals, Rennes goalkeeper Costil still had an outstanding performance. The visiting team's custodian blocked a dozen dangerous opportunities, including one-on-one situations for Ibrahimovic and Cavani. Without Costil, Rennes would likely have left the field with several more goals conceded.
PSG have already won a domestic double, securing both the Ligue 1 title and the French League Cup. They will repeat last season's treble if they defeat Marseille in the French Cup final on May 21st.
