'Silence is Russia's policy'

Responding to a reporter's question about the Russian Foreign Ministry's lack of comment on the US presidential election, Ms. Zakharova said that this is Russia's foreign policy stance. Russia does not interfere in other countries' elections. "We respect the American people. It is their choice, not the choice of the Russian people."

When the reporter mentioned that Mr. Samantha Power, the US representative to the United Nations, in the most recent meeting of the Security Council, loudly called Russia's actions in Syria barbaric, Ms. Zakharova felt disappointed that no one remembered, no one noted, not even the UN Security Council or the US delegation there, that it was Russia that took the initiative to establish a consultative council right after the bombing in Washington in 2001.

Reacting to the statement in the latest Dutch report on the MH17 plane disaster, “We have not seen the latest Russian reports, but we know very well that they are not specific,” the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that it was not a spur-of-the-moment statement, but a deliberate accusation.

Ms. Zakharova finds it “ridiculous” that famous organizations and websites always feature the familiar phrase “irrefutable evidence,” and that the cause of all conflicts, from Ukraine, Syria to MH17, is Russia.

“We believe that what the Netherlands has just announced is a prejudice. And an important point is that all the evidence or evidence presented is based on the conclusions that Ukraine has made.” Ms. Zakharova also affirmed that Russia will remain silent and will not say anything more.
