Indonesia fires cannons to welcome General Secretary To Lam.
At Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, a seven-gun salute was fired – a solemn ceremony demonstrating Indonesia's respect for the visit of the General Secretary and his wife.
According to the VNA special correspondent, at exactly 1:20 PM on March 9th, the special aircraft carrying General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, and his wife, Ngo Phuong Ly, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma military airport in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, beginning a state visit to the Republic of Indonesia and an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9-11, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Welcoming General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, at Halim Perdanakusuma military airport, the Indonesian side included: Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono; Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Denny Abdi and many Indonesian officials. The Vietnamese side included: Vietnamese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Indonesia Ta Van Thong and his wife; Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, along with numerous staff members from the Vietnamese Embassy and Mission to ASEAN.
General Secretary To Lam and his wife stepped off the plane onto the honor carpet, walked between two rows of honor guards, stopped in front of the national flags of the two countries and bowed; they shook hands with Indonesian officials and representatives from the Vietnamese side who came to welcome them.

This is the first visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Indonesia in nearly 8 years (since August 2017) and is a historic visit, also marking the first time the General Secretary of Vietnam has visited the ASEAN Secretariat.
The visit coincides with Vietnam's celebration of the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Indonesia, the first country in Southeast Asia to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1955.
Over the past 70 years, especially since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership (in 2013), cooperation between the two countries has become increasingly comprehensive and profound; exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts have taken place regularly both bilaterally and in multilateral forums.
The visit also coincided with the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN, a historic milestone marking the beginning of its regional and international integration process. Vietnam's contributions are closely linked to the significant developments of ASEAN, helping to strengthen a united, resilient, and open ASEAN Community.
