Infiniti will unveil the QX50 Concept in Detroit.

The upcoming Detroit Auto Show will mark the debut of the Infiniti QX50 Concept, the precursor to an all-new luxury mid-size SUV.

In terms of design, the QX50 Concept is a continuation of the 2016 QX Sport Inspiration and shows how Infiniti is bringing its "Powerful Elegance" design language to a model that will be produced in reality.

This concept car features what Infiniti calls a "cabin-oriented" design, with masculine, sculpted lines to create an exterior that is both dynamic and practical.

Inside, the cabin is driver-centric but doesn't forget the passengers, unifying the design style with the exterior—both modern and dynamic, yet meticulously refined. The interior of this concept car also reflects the desire to create a new standard of design.

The QX50 Concept will also showcase Infiniti's autonomous driving assistance technologies. Because the Japanese automaker wants to focus on minimizing driver intervention, their philosophy is that all autonomous driving assistance systems ensure the driver retains maximum control of the vehicle.

In other words, this system will act like a "co-driver," handling tasks such as guiding on the highway or monitoring surrounding vehicles. The QX50's autonomous driving assistance systems will showcase a suite of technologies that Infiniti will equip in future production models.

In addition to this concept model, Infiniti is also bringing its ultra-fuel-efficient VC-Turbo turbocharged engine technology to this year's North American Auto Show. First introduced at the Paris Motor Show, this engine is the world's first with a variable compression ratio, delivering 268 horsepower and 390 Nm (287 lb-ft) of torque.

The 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) will take place from January 8th to 22nd in Detroit, USA.
