Iran launched ballistic missiles to attack 18 US military bases in the Middle East.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) deployed ballistic missiles and UAVs to attack numerous US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait in retaliation for Washington's military operations.
On June 11, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officially announced a large-scale ballistic missile attack targeting US military facilities in the Middle East. The focus of the attack was the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan and strategic command centers in the Gulf region.
Missile attack on strategic base in Jordan
According to reports from the IRGC, at least 12 ballistic missiles were launched directly at Al-Azraq Air Base and US military command centers in Jordan. The primary objective of this operation was to destroy a fleet of modern fighter jets, including F-35s, F-15s, and F-16s, along with the technical infrastructure supporting US air operations.
Iran asserts that this is a direct response to the military operations Washington is conducting. The Al-Azraq base plays a crucial role in the US's logistics and air combat network in the region.
Expand the target to the entire Gulf region.
Besides Jordan, US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain also became targets in this wave of attacks. A total of 18 military facilities were targeted by the IRGC. In Bahrain, Iran deployed drones to attack radar systems and antenna masts belonging to the Patriot air defense system of the 5th Fleet.
The tactic of combining ballistic missiles and UAVs demonstrates Tehran's meticulous planning in neutralizing the early warning and missile defense capabilities of its adversaries in the Gulf region.
A wave of retaliatory airstrikes hit Iranian territory.
Immediately following the IRGC's attacks, numerous areas in Iran were subjected to a series of retaliatory airstrikes. Large explosions were recorded at several strategic locations, including:
- Kish Island and coastal areas such as Sirik, Minab, and Bandar Abbas.
- The Isfahan region in central Iran.
- The area west of the capital Tehran and the city of Karaj.
Notably, the city of Karaj recorded at least two large explosions overnight. However, according to Al Jazeera, the situation has now stabilized and there are no further reports of new interception operations by Iranian air defenses.
Warning of potential escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.
General Majid Mousavi, Commander of the Aerospace Forces of the IRGC, issued a strong statement regarding the current situation. He emphasized that Iran is ready to turn the Middle East into a harsh reality for its adversaries if the US continues its destabilizing actions in the Strait of Hormuz.
This military action marks a new escalation of tension in relations between Tehran and Washington, placing the Middle East on high alert as both sides continuously engage in direct military retaliations.
