IRGC commander Ali Fadavi asserted that Iran is preparing to deploy new underwater weapons, and also confirmed that it had coordinated with Hezbollah to attack more than 50 targets in Israel.

Ali Fadavi, a senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has announced the deployment of a new type of missile that can be launched from underwater at speeds up to 100 meters per second. This move comes amid escalating regional tensions following large-scale military operations between Tehran and Hezbollah forces.

Underwater missile technology and deterrence capabilities

According to Iranian statements, the technology to manufacture underwater-launched weapons capable of speeds of 100 m/s is currently possessed only by Iran and Russia. Military analysts believe that the unveiling of this weapon is part of an effort to demonstrate deterrence capabilities and affirm that Iran has tactical options to respond to threats.

The IRGC has long promoted asymmetric naval tactics and weapons systems designed for operations in strategic waterways. The Strait of Hormuz, identified as a critical area, is one of the world's most important oil and gas shipping routes.

On March 11, the IRGC confirmed it had carried out a military operation in coordination with Lebanon's Hezbollah movement. The five-hour operation involved continuous fire, targeting more than 50 targets across Israeli territory.

In this offensive, the IRGC launched various types of ballistic missiles, while Hezbollah deployed attack drones and rockets. Targets included numerous military bases from Haifa in the north to Tel Aviv in the central region and Beersheba in the south.

Reaction from Israel

Hours after the attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued an official statement. Israel declared it would launch another "large-scale attack on Tehran" in response to military actions by the IRGC and Hezbollah. The incident is escalating regional security tensions as both sides continue to engage in direct military deterrence.
