This is the latest statement from Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, broadcast on state television on October 5th.
At a press conference on October 4th, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi responded to the Turkish Parliament's decision last week to extend the mandate allowing military operations against terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria for another year.
"We have urged Turkey more than once not to interfere in Iraq's affairs. I fear that Türkiye's adventurous decision could turn into a regional war," Prime Minister Abadi said.
Mr. Abadi added: "The actions of the Turkish leaders are unacceptable, and we do not want a military confrontation with Türkiye."
The Iraqi parliament also voted on a document condemning the recent decision by the Turkish parliament.
Türkiye says it deployed troops at a military base in northern Iraq late last year. According to Ankara, this was part of an international mission to train and equip Iraqi forces to fight the Islamic State (IS), which controls large swathes of territory along the southern border, around Mosul, as well as in neighboring Syria.
However, the Iraqi government insists that it never extended an invitation to such a force and considers the Turkish army to be invaders and occupiers.
