The country's army has begun clearing explosive devices and landmines left behind by IS. According to Syrian military representatives, the terrorists fled before the swift offensive of government forces, as well as the advance of allied forces on part of Hmeima in Homs province.

The rebel forces retreated in the direction of the village of Al-Sukaria and across the Euphrates River to the eastern coast.

Earlier reports indicated that Syrian forces had seized control of Abu-Kemal's firepower. The area was then attacked by Russian air power and Calibr cruise missiles.

In the last two months, the Syrian army has made significant progress in liberating the country from terrorism.
