The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently missed an opportunity to order a batch of 12 new-generation Apache attack helicopters from the United States due to delays in the internal budget approval process. This incident occurred despite efforts by IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and flexible adjustments to the deadline from the US Department of Defense.
According to Walla, the IDF was supposed to send a detailed Letter of Procurement (LOR) to the Pentagon after the Israeli Ministry of Finance approved the budget. This was a mandatory step to secure a place on Boeing's production line, where Apache helicopters are being manufactured. However, procedural hurdles prevented Israel from completing the application on time.

Notably, the US extended the deadline for Israel to complete the order documentation twice. However, by the final deadline, the process remained incomplete. Military sources described the cause as disputes and delays in funding allocation, referred to as "budget games" between the relevant agencies.
Although the Israeli Ministry of Finance had committed to securing funding for the deal, a lack of coordination caused the opportunity to slip away. Missing out on the current production line means that the aircraft delivery schedule will be significantly delayed compared to the original plan.

This batch of 12 helicopters is the first phase of a larger agreement to purchase a total of approximately 30 new-generation Apache helicopters. This is considered a key modernization program for the Israeli Air Force aimed at enhancing its close air support and rapid response capabilities.
