The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have neutralized Hezbollah's strategic underground structures in the Qantara area, aiming to eliminate infrastructure that threatens security along the Green Line border.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the successful destruction of Hezbollah's underground tunnel system in southern Lebanon. This operation was carried out to eliminate military infrastructure that Israel considers a direct threat to its border security.

Technical specifications of the tunnel system

According to a report from the IDF, these underground structures were discovered in the Qantara area and have a complex structure similar to the tunnel system previously discovered in the Gaza Strip. Reconnaissance data indicates that these two tunnels have existed for about 10 years, lying dozens of meters underground.

Inside the tunnels, Israeli forces seized a large amount of military equipment, including sniper rifles, explosives, and logistical supplies for long-term concealment operations. The IDF released video footage of the scene inside, however, this information has not been independently verified by relevant units.

Strategic objectives along the Green Line

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the large explosion at Qantara was part of an overall plan to clear enemy military infrastructure in the security zone that extends to the "Green Line"—the 120-kilometer de facto border between Israel and Lebanon.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that Israel will continue to implement measures to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure, both above and underground, to protect the residents of Galilee. Currently, Hezbollah has not issued an official comment on the Israeli reports of tunnel destruction.

On-site developments and casualties

Despite ceasefire efforts, the conflict in southern Lebanon remains complex with ongoing airstrikes. According to local media, attacks on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning caused significant casualties in several areas.

  • Majdal Zoun:The attack on a building killed two civilians; a second bombing raid resulted in the deaths of three more rescue workers who were on duty.
  • Tebnine and Shaqra:At least two deaths have been reported as a result of the airstrike.
  • Jwaya and Jebchit:The attacks left three people dead and at least 13 others injured.

The office of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks, saying they targeted aid workers and civilians. The Lebanese army also confirmed that two soldiers were injured while assisting at the scene of the explosions.
