Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed on January 17 that a ceasefire agreement in Gaza had been signed in Doha on January 16 between Israel, Hamas, the United States, and Qatar.

According to The Jerusalem Post, the first phase of this ceasefire agreement, signed between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Doha on January 16, included the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The source said the first phase of the agreement will last 42 days, and implementation will begin two to three days after signing. Women and children will be released first, followed by female soldiers, then men over 50, and younger people classified as "humanitarian cases".
In return, Israel would release 2,000 people convicted of terrorism, including about 1,000 detained after the events of October 7, 2023. Among these, 250 are serving life sentences. However, news reports indicate that none of those involved in the October 7 attacks on Israel will be released.
