On the afternoon of May 13th, a welcoming ceremony for the US delegation will be held at the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem.
Ivanka Trump, daughter and senior advisor to US President Donald Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin led this delegation.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that 86 foreign ambassadors in Israel had been invited to attend the opening ceremony, of which 40 accepted the invitation.
Four European countries, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Hungary, have confirmed their attendance at the opening ceremony, despite opposition from the European Union (EU) to the US decision.
Thousands of police officers have been deployed across districts of Jerusalem amid fears of Palestinian protests and violence.
Additionally, police will line up and form a "human wall" between the nearby Arnona area, where the new embassy is located, and Sur Baher, the Palestinian border area in East Jerusalem.
For a long time, Palestine has desired East Jerusalem to be the capital of a future Palestinian state. Following President Trump's decision, the Palestinian Authority argues that the US cannot be considered a fair mediator in the Middle East.
