While the concept offers significant flexibility and does indeed improve performance, the product still has some areas for improvement regarding setup and display quality.
Versatile design and complete set of accessories.
The JSAUX FlipGo Horizon Pro, starting at $499, comes carefully packaged with a host of accessories. Users receive two monitors, a Snap Stand Pro stand, a hard case, a separate monitor carrying pouch, a charger, various connection cables (four USB-C cables, two mini HDMI cables), and other essential tools. This variety of cables allows for flexible connection to laptops via USB-C ports supporting video output, HDMI, or a combination of both.
Each monitor has two square recessed slots on the back, allowing for magnetic attachment to the metal stand. This mechanism holds the monitor quite securely, although alignment sometimes takes a little time. The included hard case carrying bag is also a big plus, helping to protect the entire device during transport, despite its considerable weight.
Practical experience: Flexible but not yet perfect.
The biggest advantage of the FlipGo Horizon is its flexibility. Users can set up the display system in various modes: two horizontal screens, two vertical screens, a combination of both, stacked screens, or using only a single screen. This effectively meets a wide range of work needs, from spreadsheet processing to entertainment.
However, this flexibility comes with some complexities during installation. Switching between modes requires adjusting the base in different ways, and this process can be time-consuming and not intuitive at first. In particular, the stacking mode requires the use of a small stand, which may be unstable on uneven surfaces.
Display quality and connectivity
Technically, each monitor boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate, delivering sharp images for typical office work. However, the display quality is only average. Color tests show the monitor only achieves 80% sRGB, and the maximum brightness is rather modest at 250 nits. These specifications are sufficient for general tasks but unsuitable for creative professionals requiring high color accuracy.
The system supports multiple connection options via USB-C and mini HDMI. A commendable feature is that the included USB-C cables have an L-shaped connector, making cable management neater. Passthrough charging is also very useful, allowing both the laptop and monitor to be powered with a single charger. Users can easily adjust brightness, contrast, and other settings via the menu button on the side of the monitor.
Compatibility issues and final version
During pre-production testing, some compatibility issues occurred. When connected to HP OmniBook X and Lenovo Legion 9i laptops, the screen flickered and displayed errors. However, JSAUX acknowledged the feedback and stated that this was likely due to the device incorrectly identifying the resolution. The final commercial version shipped later did not experience similar problems, indicating that the issue had been resolved.
