Jurgen Klopp: Rewriting Liverpool history

The Kop have just set an unprecedented record of winning all 7 consecutive matches in the new season. In the English National Championship, this is the 3rd time Liverpool have had a series of winning all 6 matches in the first round. The previous 2 times were the 1978-79 and 1990-91 seasons. In which, they won the championship in 1979 and finished 2nd in 1991, behind Arsenal.

Liverpool face a tight schedule. They have more than a month of regular 2 matches a week until the beginning of October and all are extremely important matches, not easy. Before welcoming Southampton, Liverpool started the climb very well with 2 impressive victories against Tottenham (2-1) and PSG (3-2) in the Premier League and Champions League.

In that situation, coach Klopp was forced to rotate a few positions. Center-back Joe Gomez gave way to Matip, and 32-year-old veteran James Milner, who has played very well since the beginning of the season, sat on the bench for Shaqiri.
