Juventus's 11-match winning streak since the start of the season was halted by Genoa right at the Allianz Stadium. The visitors debuted their "new yet familiar" coach, Ivan Juric. This was Juric's third time managing Genoa, and he quickly made his mark with a 3-5-2 formation.

Juventus were unbeaten against Genoa since January 1991, and the port city club wasn't expected to pull off an upset. This was further reinforced when Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Joao Cancelo made a skillful run down the left wing and decided to shoot. The ball deflected off two Genoa players before landing perfectly for Ronaldo, who easily tapped it into the net.
