Husin Deraman: FAM has no basis to appeal to CAS. If FIFA upholds the ruling, Malaysia could be deducted 6 points and fined 350,000 Swiss francs. Seven players banned for 12 months.

The Secretary-General of the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA), Husin Deraman, stated that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has no basis to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the FIFA penalty related to the fraudulent paperwork of seven players. Malaysia has not yet officially appealed.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, Husin Deraman said pursuing the lawsuit was inappropriate and could further damage the country's reputation. He emphasized: "From a professional standpoint, my advice is that FAM should not appeal, as they have no basis to appeal. Looking at the facts, there simply isn't any basis to present to the CAS." According to him, FIFA has a solid argument and the chances of success are almost zero.

The sporting consequences if the sentence remains unchanged.

If Malaysia accepts FIFA's penalty, the result of their 4-0 victory against Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers risks being reversed into a loss. Combined with another loss against Nepal, Malaysia would lose 6 points and officially be out of contention for a place in the next round.

Specific penalty amount

FIFA's current sanctions include a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs against FAM. Each of the seven players involved was fined 2,000 francs and banned from playing for 12 months.

Application status

FAM is considering legal options, but Malaysia has not officially appealed at this time. FIFA's penalty remains in effect.
