Suffering from hallucinations while high on drugs, Nhat thought his neighbor hated him, so he chased after him with a knife.

On September 21st, Nguyen Linh Nhat (24 years old) was brought to trial at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court. Despite his vacant stare, he answered quite fluently, admitting to all his crimes.

Nhat lived next door to Phong's family in an alley off Phan Van Tri Street, Binh Thanh District. After returning from a rehabilitation center at the end of 2015, he continued to secretly use methamphetamine. During his highs, Nhat experienced hallucinations and constantly thought Phong hated him.

Around the middle of last year, after using crystal meth, Nhat stormed into Phong's house and attacked him, but his father intervened and made him apologize to the neighbors.

On November 27, 2016, seeing Phong talking to an acquaintance at the entrance of the alley, Nhat went home to get a knife to "punish" him. As soon as Phong turned back into the house, Nhat lunged and stabbed him. The victim ran away, but the drug addict chased after him.

The Japanese father ran to hug his son, but the son pushed him away and continued to chase Phong, stabbing him repeatedly until the victim died.

Forensic examination results determined that Nhat suffered from a mental disorder due to stimulant use and paranoia, which limited his cognitive abilities.

The court ruled that Nhật's crime was of a brutal nature, a deliberate murder, and therefore deserved severe punishment, sentencing him to life imprisonment for murder.
