The Burj Al Arab hotel and other key infrastructure in Dubai were damaged after being hit by debris from an intercepted drone. International airports are currently closed.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai's most luxurious architectural icon, experienced a serious fire on February 28th. According to the Dubai Media Office, a drone was intercepted in mid-air, causing debris to fall onto the tower's exterior and ignite the fire.

Civil Defense forces arrived immediately to control the fire. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported at the hotel. However, the military tensions in the area have had a ripple effect on other critical infrastructure.

Besides the Burj Al Arab, debris from the interception also caused fires at Jebel Ali port. Another fire broke out outside the Fairmont The Palm hotel in Palm Jumeirah after it was struck by a flying object.

Air travel is disrupted and there are warnings about misinformation.

Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, was also affected when a terminal area suffered minor damage. The incident resulted in four employees being injured and receiving medical treatment. For safety reasons, all flight operations at DXB and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) have been suspended until further notice.

In response to videos circulating on social media, Dubai authorities noted that some images showing smoke rising from the Burj Khalifa were outdated and did not accurately reflect the current situation. Tourists and residents were advised to be cautious about misinformation.
