Former commune chairman expelled from the Party for embezzlement of nearly 1 billion VND.

The former chairman of Thuan Thien commune (Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) has been expelled from the Party after being sentenced to 12 months in prison by the People's Court for "negligence causing serious consequences" in management, allowing the commune's female treasurer to embezzle nearly 1 billion VND.

This morning, the leaders of the Can Loc District Party Committee confirmed that the unit had just held a meeting and expelled two officials from Thuan Thien commune from the Party.

Defendant Hue was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Binh and Hoa were each sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Specifically, the Party expelled Mr. Le Sy Binh (55 years old, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, former Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune) and Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoa (40 years old, finance and accounting officer of the commune).

During their time as Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune and commune budget accountant, these two officials lacked responsibility in management, failing to fully and correctly implement the regulations of the Accounting Law and its guiding documents. As a result, Ms. Vo Thi Hue (58 years old, treasurer of the People's Committee of the commune) abused her position and authority to embezzle a total of over 900 million VND.

This is the amount of money that the People's Committee of the commune previously collected from land sales, budget revenue, and various fees.

When the matter came to light, in September 2010, Hue fled to the South to work as a domestic helper, and was arrested five years later.

On the morning of September 15, 2016, the People's Court of Ha Tinh Province opened the first-instance trial of Vo Thi Hue, Le Sy Binh, and Nguyen Huu Hoa on charges of "embezzlement of property" and "negligence in management causing serious consequences".
