Opening of the Wisdom House in Thanh Chuong
On the afternoon of November 10, Thanh Ngoc Secondary School, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province held the launching ceremony of the Wisdom House.
This is the 6th intellectual house built at a school in Thanh Chuong district and the 3rd house in the secondary school block.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Vo Van Mai - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An; Mr. Trinh Van Nha, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district; Leaders of Thanh Ngoc commune; representatives of the Thanh Chuong Association in the Southern region; Representatives of the Lifelong Learning Institute, the House of Wisdom program and the Humanitarian Bookshelf; Principals of high schools, middle schools and primary schools in the area and all teachers and students of the school.
Thanh Ngoc Secondary School's Wisdom House was established thanks to the support of the Thanh Chuong Association in the Southern region; the Charity Bookcase program, the Wisdom House program and Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - a successful Thanh Chuong businessman. The total value of the house is more than 122 million VND, including 80 million VND in cash and a bookcase system worth more than 42 million VND.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh - Deputy Director of the Institute of Lifelong Learning said: The construction and implementation over the past years in Thanh Chuong district have shown the effectiveness and positive impact of the model of the intellectual house in schools. The models have breathed new life, full of creativity and flexibility, contributing to a harmonious complement to the school's formal education system.
Moreover, the intellectual house with the subject of enthusiastic and dynamic youth is becoming a place to connect knowledge without borders. The intellectual houses at schools in Thanh Chuong regularly welcome professors, scholars, experts, lecturers, students and pupils from many localities in the country and from many countries around the world to teach, exchange and share about culture, education... These activities help students improve their English communication skills, practice soft skills, build a confident and open global mindset.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, General Secretary of the Thanh Chuong Association in the Southern region, said: The Association is very impressed with the meaningful, effective, systematic, professional and sustainable activities of the two programs, House of Wisdom and Charity Bookcase, in Thanh Chuong, Nghe An in particular and the whole country in general over the past many years.
The Compassionate Bookcase and the Wisdom House are two philanthropic programs in the fields of culture and education, focusing on creating, maintaining and developing communities of reading, self-study and lifelong learning completely free of charge. The program has been awarded Awards and Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (2020) and by the Minister of Education and Training (2024). In October 2023, the two programs were awarded the Literacy and Knowledge Dissemination Award by the US Library of Congress, in the category of "Excellent Practice".
Up to now, the Charity Bookcase has mobilized and donated, building a network of more than 25,000 bookcases (more than 1.5 million books) in more than 3,200 schools and residential communities in all 63 provinces and cities of the country and some provinces in Laos. The House of Wisdom has built and maintained more than 300 lifelong learning spaces in 17 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 5 other countries (Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US).
