If I register for initial medical examination and treatment at the Provincial General Hospital, but then seek medical treatment at district-level hospitals, health centers, or polyclinics within the province and other localities, will my health insurance cover the costs? If so, what is the reimbursement rate?

That was the concern of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duc in Dong Nai province when participating in health insurance.

Regarding this matter, the Vietnam Social Security responded as follows:

According to Article 22 of the Health Insurance Law, health insurance participants are entitled to 100% reimbursement of treatment costs within the benefit limits specified on their health insurance card when: Receiving medical examination and treatment at district-level hospitals nationwide; Registering for initial medical examination and treatment at a commune-level health station, multi-specialty clinic, or district-level hospital within the same province.

If you initially register for medical examination and treatment at Dong Nai Provincial General Hospital (a provincial-level hospital), the health insurance fund will cover 100% of the costs of examination and treatment at district-level hospitals nationwide. However, this will not cover examination and treatment at commune health stations or health centers (organized as multi-specialty clinics), multi-specialty clinics in Dong Nai province, or other localities outside the province (except in emergency cases).
