The New Year's market in the Thanh Chuong resettlement area has the distinctive characteristics of a highland market. Each market day, people from all over flock to buy, sell, and trade in a bustling atmosphere.

Local markets in the resettlement communes of Ngoc Lam and Thanh Son are held near the commune center, twice a week (Ngoc Lam commune market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while Thanh Son market is held on Wednesdays and Sundays). Compared to the early days of their establishment, the markets have changed somewhat; most market stalls have been covered with corrugated iron, and each market day sees more buyers and sellers. The New Year's market in the resettlement area attracted people from within and outside the district to buy and sell. Ms. Lo Thi Thu (52 years old), residing in Cha Coong village, Thanh Son commune, said: "I have been selling brocade clothing for many years. During the week, I go to Ngoc Lam market and then return to Thanh Son market to sell. Today, I sold quite a lot of goods at Ngoc Lam market." (Photo: Huy Thu)

The market sells a wide variety of goods, with brocade and rattan handicrafts adding a unique charm to this highland market. Local residents say that most of the brocade sold here is brought in from other places, as few are woven by the local people themselves. Photo: Huy Thu

The New Year's market in the resettlement area wouldn't be complete without dried forest rats and squirrels, bamboo shoots, and traditional Thai and Khmu cakes such as pork patties, fish patties, and moss patties (20,000 - 30,000 VND/pack), and grilled fish wrapped in banana leaves (30,000 VND/pack)...
