(Baonghean.vn) - Halloween is a major festival in many countries around the world, from Asia and Europe to the Americas, with participants dressing up as scary and terrifying characters. And each country has a different way of celebrating Halloween. Let's take a look at some countries during this special holiday.
1 - USA

| In the US, Halloween is celebrated on a grand scale. |
Halloween is a lively, extravagant, and boisterous festival in the United States. It's an opportunity for people to hide their social status and true selves, exploring the darker aspects of human nature in a fun and harmless way. It's also a time to ward off evil spirits and prevent them from destroying crops or causing trouble for people. Halloween has become a time for mischief – especially for children, who can dress up and go from house to house causing mischief and demanding candy.
2 - England

The centerpiece of the annual Halloween festival is the bonfire. During the festival, you'll always see blazing bonfires in the streets of England. However, unlike Halloween elsewhere in the world, these bonfires aren't meant to ward off evil spirits and wandering souls, but rather to commemorate the story of Guy Fawkes, who attempted to blow up London's Houses of Parliament in 1605 according to the church calendar. He met a tragic end. It's believed that the Pope at the time used revolutions to reform Christianity in England. Many effigies of Guy Fawkes are burned.
3 - France

The French also enjoy dressing up, having parties, and playing "trick or treat." Every year, a parade of zombies and ghouls is held in the town of Limoges, and a large party is held in Paris to celebrate Halloween. French costumes are usually very scary – mummies, goblins, witches, vampires… rather than princesses, princes, or cartoon characters like in the US. "Trick or treat" is rare; if it happens, it's not house-to-house but shop-to-shop.
4 - Germany

| In Germany, people celebrate Halloween with great enthusiasm and joy. Besides the pumpkin lanterns that every house has, the costume party is also the most popular activity attracting many participants. |
In Germany, Halloween is celebrated as All Saints' Day. In southern Germany, the festival is celebrated from October 30th to November 8th. Typically, during this time, and in many other Catholic communities around the world, Germans go to church to pray and show respect to the saints who sacrificed themselves for the Catholic faith, as well as visit graves and remember deceased family members.

In Austria, during these days, Austrians often visit cemeteries, paying respects at the graves of their loved ones and decorating them with wreaths, candles, or water vases. On the last day, they usually hold a memorial service for the departed souls. On Halloween, October 31st, Austrians don't dress up in scary costumes or participate in candy parties; instead, they place a glass of water, bread, and light a candle on their bedside table before going to bed. They believe this is a way to welcome the spirits back.

It’s not exactly Halloween, but rather a Day of the Spirits coming to life in Mexico. This celebration is popular throughout Mexico, with large-scale festivities even in the smallest villages.

Halloween is no longer just a phrase that gives Vietnamese youth goosebumps; it has truly become a special and highly anticipated costume party of the year. During the Halloween season, many shops on the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City sell a variety of Halloween costumes and accessories. These include unique and impressive items like coffins, ghost costumes, and skeletons. Some people even go to the trouble of having their own scary costumes custom-made or commissioning unique mask designs.
