With its long history, the National Historical Monument of Hao Kiet Temple in Vinh Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district) possesses a unique beauty, making it an attractive destination for tourists visiting the rice-growing region.

The Hao Kiet Temple was built during the Le Dynasty to worship Grand Marshal Lai Quoc Cong Phan Cong Tich - a renowned general who made many contributions to protecting the nation and ensuring peace for the people during the Le Trung Hung period. Over the centuries, the monument has undergone numerous restorations and renovations. Photo: Huy Thu

Currently, within the temple grounds spanning thousands of square meters, there are many structures, such as the triple-arched gate, the ceremonial gate, the three lower, middle, and upper halls, the two left and right side halls, the bell tower, the drum tower, the crescent-shaped pond, etc., all built and designed with symmetrical and harmonious beauty. Visiting the Hao Kiet Temple, tourists are impressed by the two bell and drum towers of the temple, built opposite each other across a crescent-shaped lake, mimicking the image of Khue Van Cac at the Imperial Academy (Hanoi). Photo: Huy Thu

According to the temple management board, thanks to the support of departments and agencies at all levels, the backing of local people and those who have moved away, the temple has been extensively renovated since 2005 and now has its current appearance. Photo: Huy Thu

Of the three main halls (lower, middle, upper), only the upper hall is an original relic. This is a two-bay house built lengthwise on a wooden frame, with elaborately carved components featuring traditional motifs such as dragons, mythical creatures, turtles, and phoenixes... Photo: Huy Thu

The carvings feature delicate, soft, and graceful lines. On the rear roof truss of the main hall, the image of a "phoenix" with its wings spread wide and its head held high is carved with sharpness and vividness. Photo: Huy Thu

Besides worshipping Thái Úy Lai Quốc công Phan Công Tích, the temple also houses shrines to other deities, such as Kế Quận công Phan Công Ngạn, Cao Sơn, Cao Các, etc. Photo: Huy Thư

The temple still preserves many ancient artifacts (altars, incense burners, etc.), and valuable documents such as diplomas, decrees, genealogies, legends, funeral orations, contracts, land registers, petitions, etc. These are extremely valuable documents for the study of local history and the fields of local studies and customs. Throughout its existence, the temple received numerous royal decrees from Vietnamese feudal dynasties, but these have been lost or misplaced. Currently, the temple still preserves quite a few boxes containing these decrees. In 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism classified Hao Kiet Temple as a National Historical Monument. Every year, on the 11th and 12th of the second lunar month, the Hao Kiet Village Festival takes place at the temple, featuring many attractive events that draw large numbers of locals and tourists from all over.
