Longest sea bridge in Vietnam inaugurated.

On September 2nd, the Ministry of Transport held a ceremony to mark the completion and commissioning of the Km2 810 - Km15 630 section of the Tan Vu - Lach Huyen highway project, which includes the longest sea bridge in Vietnam, connecting the center of Hai Phong city with Cat Hai island district.

The Tan Vu - Lach Huyen highway project in Hai Phong City is one of the two main components of the Lach Huyen port infrastructure development project - an international gateway port and, in the future, the first international transshipment port in Northern Vietnam.

The project includes a construction package implemented by a consortium of contractors comprising Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd., Truong Son Construction Corporation, and CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company, with a total investment of VND 11,849 billion (50.171 billion Yen from Japanese ODA loans and VND 1,800 billion in counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government).

The total length of the project is 15.63km, starting at the Tan Vu intersection - Km100+891 of the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, and ending at Lach Huyen port. Of this, the sea bridge section alone is 5.443km long (considered the longest sea bridge in Vietnam currently) constructed using SBS technology and balanced cantilever casting.

According to the design, the project includes two interchanges in Hai An district connecting related projects: the Tan Vu interchange (connecting to the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway) and interchange No. 1 connecting to the main southwest road of Dinh Vu industrial park (connecting to provincial road 356 near the end point of the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board as the investor).

The Tan Vu interchange is currently under construction under the direction of the Ministry of Transport, following the design of a multi-level interchange (expected to be completed by the end of 2018). Therefore, before the Tan Vu interchange is fully completed, the project will be connected to the main southwest arterial road of the Dinh Vu industrial park at interchange No. 1 (Km2+810).

The Tan Vu - Lach Huyen highway construction project, upon completion and commissioning, is considered one of the key infrastructure projects of the transportation sector in 2017-2018 and commemorates the 45th anniversary of cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and Japan.

For Hai Phong in particular, the project helps connect and develop the city's coastal economy, contributing to increasing its attractiveness to investors for projects within the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai economic zone development program.

This will help reduce travel costs and time for residents, and alleviate current maritime traffic congestion on the Nam Trieu canal.

Attending and cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the project, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that this key project has strategic significance in connecting the region's key economic zones.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated and thanked the Japanese Government for its active support, from technical to economic assistance, which enabled the project to be completed on schedule.
