The moment the Paris bomber blew himself up

A shocking video showing an Islamic State (IS) terrorist blowing himself up in a Paris restaurant has been aired on French television.

Images of the death of Brahim Abdeslam, 31, were captured on security cameras at the Comptoir Voltaire restaurant on November 13 last year.

That night, a group of IS terrorists spread death and terror in the capital Paris. Their bombings and shootings killed at least 130 people.

Abdeslam, a French national who grew up in Belgium, entered the restaurant at 9:40 p.m. Looking nervous, he walked through the restaurant's main entrance after getting out of a car.

He then walked to an empty table, bowed, covered his head with his left hand and detonated the suicide vest he was carrying. A white smoke followed the explosion and people could see Abdeslam's upper body separated from his lower body.

The terrorist died on the spot, but surprisingly many people sitting around were only slightly injured.

The Mirror newspaper said that after the explosion, Abdeslam's body was almost completely destroyed and forensics had to rely on a very small piece of skin containing fingerprints left at the scene to identify him.

French channel M6 decided to air the video last Sunday night, on the show "Zone Interdite" (Forbidden Zone).

The surveillance video was later made available to French media, with warnings that it was not suitable for children to watch. Many newspapers, news agencies and social media sites republished the video.

Brahim Abdeslam is the brother of Salah Abdeslam, 26, who fled Paris after failing to detonate his suicide vest at the Stade de France stadium.

Salah Abdeslam was arrested in Brussels last month. Shortly after, his accomplices killed 32 people in a series of IS attacks in the Belgian capital.
