Sidewalks in Vinh City are being 'cut out' to create parking spaces.
(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang, Head of the Urban Management Department of Vinh City, said that the city will excavate sidewalks on some streets to create parking bays for residents. Accordingly, five streets will be included in the pilot program: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Mao, Le Hong Phong, Truong Thi, and Ho Tung Mau streets.

After two months of clearing sidewalk encroachments, many streets and roads in Vinh City have become congested again due to cars stopping and parking on both sides of the road.
Meanwhile, traffic in the city remains "mixed," meaning many different types of vehicles share the same lanes. This leads to frequent traffic congestion on some routes.

Given the above situation and the lack of centralized parking lots in the area, the Vinh City People's Committee is implementing a plan to excavate sidewalks to create "parking bays" for cars to serve residents and businesses when conducting transactions at some departments, agencies, and commercial areas.
It is expected that by the end of June 2017, parking bays will be implemented on 5 streets, including Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Mao, Le Hong Phong, Truong Thi, and Ho Tung Mau.
In addition, Vinh City has compiled a list of roads with sidewalks wider than 7 meters and proposed that the Provincial People's Committee allow parking in one lane along the sidewalk; while on roads with sidewalks wider than 9 meters, they proposed allowing parking in one lane across the sidewalk.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang further stated that these policies stem from the practical needs of the people and businesses, and the city will implement them on the basis of ensuring that they do not disrupt the planning or affect the urban landscape.
