Thick smoke and dust fill the air due to the burning of pineapple plantations in Quynh Luu district.
At this time, the pineapple harvest in Tan Thang commune (Quynh Luu district) has been completed, and many people are burning the undergrowth on the pineapple hills, causing thick smoke and dust, leading to serious environmental pollution.

Visiting the pineapple fields in Hamlet 12/9, Tan Thang Commune, Quynh Luu District, we saw farmers burning the undergrowth in their pineapple plantations, with smoke enveloping the area. This was especially problematic given the current hot and humid weather, making the air even more stifling.
A resident of hamlet 12/9, Tan Thang commune, said: "They burn the undergrowth to plant pineapples right next to the residential area. When the wind blows, the smoke and dust fly into the village, affecting health, especially the elderly, children, and those with a history of respiratory illnesses."

Some pineapple farmers believe that burning undergrowth offers many advantages, such as saving the effort of clearing fallen leaves and stems from the hills after harvest, and also eliminating pest infestations. However, burning undergrowth is causing severe pollution.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Tan Thang Commune People's Committee, said: "Currently, Tan Thang commune has over 1,200 hectares of pineapple. The commune is disseminating information and advising farmers not to burn the undergrowth when planting pineapples, as this causes pollution. Instead, they should collect the undergrowth to make organic fertilizer for pineapple cultivation, which will be more effective."
