The Ministry of Public Security has just prosecuted, arrested and detained the suspects involved in the Phu Tho Ethanol case for the crime of "Violating regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences".

Expanding the investigation into the case that occurred at the Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company (Phu Tho Ethanol Case), on November 14, the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency issued a decision to prosecute, temporarily detain, and search warrants against 3 people for the crime of "Violating regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences" as prescribed in Article 224 of the Penal Code, for:

The defendants include: Nguyen Xuan Thuy (born in 1961), former Deputy Head of Project Investment Department of Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company; Hoang Dinh Tam (born in 1981), former Head of Finance - Accounting Department; Khuong Anh Tuan (born in 1975), former Deputy Head of Trade Department; Le Thanh Thai (born in 1960), Head of Trade Department of Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company.

At the same time, serve the decision to prosecute the accused, the order prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence and execute the Search Warrant against Le Thanh Thai (born in 1960), Head of the Commercial Department of Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company.

Previously, on June 21, the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency prosecuted and temporarily detained Vu Thanh Ha, former General Director of the Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company, on the same charge.

Phu Tho Ethanol is a bio-material project to produce ethanol as a blending material to create bio-fuel, started by PVB Joint Stock Company in June 2009, on an area of ​​50 hectares (mainly rice fields of people in 3 communes: Co Tiet, Tam Cuong, Van Luong - Tam Nong district, Phu Tho).

The project had an initial investment capital of about 1,700 billion VND, later adjusted to more than 2,400 billion VND.

According to the Government Inspectorate, the Phu Tho Ethanol Plant project has cost more than VND1,534 billion, but by the time of the inspection (September 2016), it was still unfinished and at a standstill. In response to the violations discovered, the Government Inspectorate has transferred the case file to the Ministry of Public Security for further investigation and handling.

The investigation agency has clarified a number of violations of the law, causing damage to the above project.
