Local official prosecuted for embezzling money from citizens.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Investigative Police Agency (Quynh Luu District Police) has just issued a decision to initiate a criminal case and prosecute Phan Van Hung (born in 1984, residing in Quynh Thanh commune, Quynh Luu district) for the crime of "Abusing official position and power to appropriate property".
Phan Van Hung is a judicial officer working at the People's Committee of Quynh Thanh commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province), assigned the task of advising on inheritance rights documents at the commune committee.
From approximately March 2022 to July 2023, Hung acted beyond his authority to misappropriate people's property.
Despite not having the authority to process applications for land use rights renewal or new issuance, Hung lied to the people, claiming he could do it. Believing him, the people handed over money and land titles for renewal or new issuance. After receiving the money, Hung spent it on personal expenses without completing the procedures as promised.
Initially, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police proved that Hung had committed 13 crimes, embezzling nearly 200 million VND. The case is currently still under investigation.
