New details revealed about the 900 billion VND football betting case.

On April 5th, the Economic Police Department (PC46) of Nghe An Provincial Police announced that they have initiated a criminal case and indicted three suspects. Tran The Hung and Le Hong Trung were indicted and detained for three months on charges of organizing gambling. Meanwhile, Ngo Minh An (born in 1970), residing in Trung Do ward, Vinh city, was indicted for gambling but released on bail.

Initially, the investigating agency announced that, after more than two months of establishing a special case codenamed 126B, on March 29, 2017, the Economic Police Department (PC46) of the Nghe An Provincial Police, in coordination with Department 4 of the High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control Police Department (C50) of the Ministry of Public Security, simultaneously arrested and searched the residences of three individuals.

The ringleaders included Tran The Hung, nicknamed "Hung Soa" (born in 1979), residing in Quang Trung ward, Vinh city; Le Hong Trung (born in 1987), residing in Ben Thuy ward, Vinh city; and Ngo Minh An (born in 1970), residing in Trung Do ward, Vinh city.

During a search of Hung and Trung's residences, police seized two laptops and five mobile phones containing a large amount of data related to organizing online football betting.

As the ringleader, Tran The Hung was identified as the person directly managing account KX573, a Master Agent account specializing in organizing betting on the bong88.com website. This account has been active from the end of 2014 to the present, with a total amount of 22,894,360 points, equivalent to 900 billion VND, participating in football betting, with over 38,000 betting transactions.

The investigating agency also clarified that this main agent account had 6 agents and a total of 45 major gamblers in Vinh City who regularly participated in gambling on this system.

The gambler's account with the largest amount wagered (converted to points) was approximately 250 billion VND, while the account with the biggest losses was around 7 billion VND. Most gamblers participating in this system ended up losing.

In addition to organizing online football betting, this group also established a chain of pawn shops and financial lending businesses.

Colonel Nguyen Xuan Thiem (Head of the Economic Police Department) stated that, in connection with the case, the investigating agency has just arrested the fourth suspect, Pham Hong Nguyen (born in 1975), residing in Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city, for organizing gambling activities. Two mobile phones were seized as evidence. Nguyen has been identified as a subordinate agent of Tran The Hung.

The investigation is being further expanded.
