Prosecution initiated against individual who climbed onto train to steal property.
Upon noticing passengers sleeping on the train with their doors unlocked, Cuong sneaked in and stole 3 mobile phones and 1 tablet, worth over 22 million VND in total.
On the afternoon of July 22nd, the Phu Loc District Police, Thua Thien-Hue province, announced that they had served the decision to initiate criminal proceedings, indict the suspect, and temporarily detain Nguyen Duc Cuong, 28 years old, residing in Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city, for the crime of theft.

Earlier, on July 16th, Cuong was wandering around Kim Lien station in Da Nang city when he saw train HN2 stop. He tried to climb through the window to get inside the train to go to Hue. However, when the train reached Lang Co station in Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province, Cuong noticed passengers in room 2, carriage 10 and room 5, carriage 11 were sleeping with their doors open. He then sneaked in and stole 3 mobile phones and 1 tablet, worth over 22 million VND, which he hid.
Upon reaching the end of carriage 12, Cuong was suspected by the security guards of train HN2 and chased after, so he fled and hid in the luggage compartment in carriage 11. Later, when the train stopped at Truoi station in Phu Loc district, Cuong was apprehended by the train security guards and handed over to the Hue City Police when the train arrived at Hue station.
The Hue City Police handed over Cuong and the seized evidence to the Phu Loc District Police for further investigation and handling in accordance with the law.
Reportedly, Cuong has one prior offense and two prior convictions for theft, and was only released from prison in April 2018.
