On the afternoon of July 27, Major Mai Thanh Tam, deputy head of the Da Loc District Police in Quang Nam province, said that the police had just decided to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and execute an order to temporarily detain Chau Cong Minh.

The suspect abandoned his motorbike at the station.

Chau Cong Minh, 27 years old, residing in Vinh Phuoc village, Dai Dong commune, Dai Loc district. Minh has been charged with resisting a public official in the performance of their duties.

According to records, at approximately 4:30 AM on July 12th, forest rangers at the Dai Hong forest ranger station in Dai Loc district spotted Minh riding a motorbike without a license plate, carrying a illegally logged log, past the station.

The task force pulled up the control gate and ordered the vehicle to stop for inspection, but Minh refused to comply, abandoning the vehicle and timber outside. When invited into the office for questioning, Minh used vulgar language to threaten and insult the forest rangers before leaving.

Forest ranger Nguyen Tha was slashed in the face.

At around 6:30 AM that same day, Minh returned to the station carrying a knife, stormed into the guard post, hurled insults, and brandished the knife at the officers on duty.

As a result, forest ranger Nguyen Tha suffered a 10cm long gash across his face, running from his ear to the corner of his mouth on the right side, and had to be rushed to the hospital.

The case is currently under investigation by the Da Loc District Police.
