Woman prosecuted for strangling husband to death
In addition to prosecuting Tran Thi Lien for murder, authorities are summoning another family member to clarify her role in helping lead to the murder.
According to the investigation documents, at noon on June 7, at her father-in-law's death anniversary, Ms. Tran Thi Lien (born in 1972, residing in Xuan Pho commune, Nghi Xuan district) was scolded and hit on the head by her husband, Mr. Pham Anh S. (born in 1964), who was drunk and angry. She then resisted, called another person to help, tied him up with a rope, and locked him in the room.

At around 8:00 p.m. the same day, because Mr. S. continued to curse, Ms. Lien went into the bathroom and used rope and tape to gag her husband. At 1:30 a.m. on July 7, she wrapped a long-sleeved shirt around Mr. S.'s neck.
Knowing that her husband had died, Ms. Lien used scissors to cut the rope and shirt, put these items in a black plastic bag and threw them in the garden. She then called her children to inform them that their drunk father had suddenly died and to urgently arrange a funeral.
When it came time to arrange the funeral, Mr. S's relatives did not believe that he had died suddenly, so they reported it to Nghi Xuan District Police. After examining the scene and the body, the police argued that the victim had many bruises, which were caused by external force.
Ms. Lien was suspected of being the culprit and was invited to come in for questioning, but initially she only admitted to tying up her husband but not killing him. After two days of questioning, she admitted to using a long-sleeved shirt to wrap around Mr. S.’s neck, leading to his death.
Ms. Lien also confessed that when the incident happened, her youngest daughter was also in the house.
It is known that Ms. Lien and Mr. S have 3 children. They have been separated for four years. She works as a maid and Mr. S works as a carpenter in Vinh. They only come back to see each other when there is family business.
