The police determined this was a murder case and initiated legal proceedings in accordance with the law to clarify all suspicions.

On the afternoon of November 20th, Major General Phan Chí Thanh, Director of the Long An Provincial Police, confirmed that the Provincial Police Investigation Agency has initiated a criminal case regarding the tragic deaths of a mother and her two children in Phuoc Vinh Dong commune, Can Giuoc district (Long An province), due to suspected criminal activity.

On the same day, Mr. Nguyen Cong Pha, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Long An province, also stated that initiating a criminal case is a necessary step in the investigation process. "Only after initiating the case and conducting the investigation will it be officially determined whether this was a suicide or a murder," he said.

As we previously reported, on the morning of November 19th, while returning from a medical appointment, the mother-in-law of Do Thi Ai Nguyen (30 years old) passed by her daughter-in-law's house and noticed the door was slightly ajar, so she went inside to check. Upon entering, she was horrified to find Nguyen and her two grandchildren, Nguyen Thi Nhu Huyen, 10 years old, and Nguyen Hoang Khang, 9 years old, dead. All had deep wounds to their necks.

Initial investigations by the police revealed a suicide note and numerous messages on her phone, expressing her weariness of life, her inadequacy as a "daughter-in-law, mother, and wife," and her request to "take her two children with her." The scene showed no signs of disturbance or resistance; the bloodstained knife belonged to the family and was found near Ms. Nguyen's body...

Based on initial investigations, prosecuting authorities in Long An province believe the mother may have murdered her two children before committing suicide.

Explaining the decision to initiate criminal proceedings despite the initial assessment that it was a suicide, a senior prosecutor (from the High People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City) said: "First of all, this is a murder case. The initial evidence gathered at the scene, including fingerprints, suicide note, and text messages, is merely pre-procedural activity. After initiating criminal proceedings, the police will request expert examination to clarify all evidence collected at the scene, such as whether the letter and text messages were created by Ms. Nguyen; to clarify fingerprints on the knife and wounds; and to summon all witnesses for questioning… After investigating and clarifying every detail, if it is determined that this was a suicide, the police will suspend the case," the prosecutor added.
