No Vietnamese victims in earthquakes in Japan

Up to now, there has been no information about damage to Vietnamese people in the two recent earthquakes in Japan.

"We sincerely share the enormous loss of life and property that the Japanese government and people are suffering from the recent earthquakes," said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh today. "We would like to send our condolences to the families of the victims and strongly believe that with their efforts and will, the Japanese government and people will soon overcome this difficult time to stabilize the situation."

Regarding the issue of Vietnamese citizens affected by the earthquakes, Mr. Le Hai Binh affirmed that according to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka, so far there has been no information about Vietnamese people being victims of the earthquakes.

Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan are continuing to coordinate with local authorities to grasp the situation and develop support plans if any Vietnamese citizens are affected.

At the same time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Japan have opened three hotlines (+81) 80 3590 9136, (+81) 80 3984 6668 and (+81) 80 3904 0198 to receive information related to the situation of Vietnamese citizens in order to provide timely support and emergency assistance.

On the evening of April 14, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Kumamoto City, Kyushu Island, Japan, killing 9 people and injuring more than 800. At 1:25 a.m. this morning (local time), another magnitude 7.3 earthquake continued to shake the area. Police said the earthquake killed at least 19 people and caused many buildings and houses to collapse and be damaged.
