Similar to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1, Nghe An Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center also proactively called for and coordinated with benefactors to organize gift giving for children with thalassemia who are being treated here.

These days, there are over 30 sick children being treated at the center. Suffering from the terrible congenital hemolytic disease, all of them are stunted, weak, with yellow, pale faces, tired and inactive. Receiving gifts of candy, milk, storybooks, coloring pens, hats, shirts, etc., the children are very happy, their cheerfulness has somewhat returned. The gifts, though small, carry great spiritual strength, helping the children overcome the pain of illness, and at the same time will be meaningful luggage, sowing in the children's hearts the seeds of kindness towards the community in the future.

Doctor Pham Van Thai - Deputy Director of Nghe An Province Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center confided: Every child has the right to grow up in a loving and happy environment. Most of the children with thalassemia have extremely difficult family circumstances. They are suffering from the pain of illness every day. More than ever, they need to receive more care and love to have confidence in life.

For over 4 years, Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center has established the “Wings of Dreams” class to help children with thalassemia to study during treatment, not to miss out on their studies, and to be able to follow the curriculum when they return home. Now that it is summer, the “Wings of Dreams” class is also on vacation. However, the classroom is always open so that children can come down to play, read books, and chat with the center’s staff.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Nghe An Province Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center, homeroom teacher of the class "Wings of Dreams" said: The class is temporarily on summer break, but during this time, we still gather the patients together for cultural and artistic activities, reading poetry, listening to stories, as well as playing games, eating candy and cakes.

The Youth Union and the class also tried to create a joyful atmosphere of International Children's Day right in the center. As it was outside, it was the same inside. Hopefully, the time spent immersing in the joyful atmosphere of the ceremony would help dispel the pain of illness so that the children could have moments filled with laughter on the national children's day.

On the occasion of International Children's Day, when asked about his dream, 5-year-old Lu Thien Phuoc said: "I just wish I could be like my friends"... This patient's simple dream made doctors and nurses cry.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh shared: The life of a patient with thalassemia is almost closely tied to the hospital and the hospital bed. The doctors and nurses at the center always try their best to help the children regain their health and gradually integrate into normal life. Hopefully, the whole community will join hands to fight this terrible disease, so that no more children will have to wish they were like other children…/.
