Also at this session, in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the National Assembly and Chairman of the National Election Council stated: “The recent election (held on May 22nd) resulted in 496 elected National Assembly deputies. However, during the process of verifying the qualifications of these deputies, one case is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities for suspected violations and shortcomings.”
That case involves Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, former Vice Chairman of Hau Giang province. Previously, after identifying signs of violations, the Central Inspection Committee recommended to the Politburo and the Secretariat that the National Election Council consider not recognizing Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh's eligibility as a member of the 14th National Assembly.
Through its investigation, the Central Inspection Committee found that in the process of receiving, transferring, appointing, planning, and nominating Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh for election at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Hau Giang province, the relevant Party organizations, agencies, units, and individuals had shortcomings and violated principles, procedures, and standards for cadres. On July 11, the Central Inspection Committee issued a notice regarding its 4th and 5th sessions, stating: Following the directives of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Inspection Committee conducted an investigation into suspected violations by Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province for the 2011-2016 term.
The Central Disciplinary Committee has decided and requested that the process of reviewing and handling disciplinary action against Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh be initiated.
