Since 2004, Johnny D. has impersonated Trump, but his "role" truly took off when Trump rose to prominence in American politics as a presidential candidate. As Trump became a household name, one of the most talked-about figures in American politics, Johnny D.'s income also swelled, at times reaching $40,000 per month.
Impersonating Trump requires considerable effort. CNN Money quoted him as saying that he regularly reads newspapers and carefully studies videos of Trump speaking in order to behave like him. And the investment can sometimes be quite expensive; for example, three wigs mimicking Trump's hairstyle cost Johnny D. $12,000.
It wasn't just about memorizing gestures and speeches. Johnny D. started impersonating at the age of 5 and underwent eight years of speech therapy training to be able to mimic other people's voices. This skill proved invaluable when impersonating Trump.

But whatever the case, the topic of the speech remains paramount. Johnny D. says Mexico and the wall are always two "hit" topics when he impersonates Trump. He recounts that he usually starts by saying, "Are there any Mexicans here?" and when people laugh, he immediately mimics the controversial politician's tone and continues, "See? See? Mexicans love me. Obviously they love me."
And the "fake billionaire" also once "announced" his business plan: "We're going to build a fantastic Trump hotel on top of the wall. It's going to be a top-of-the-line luxury hotel."
