According to RIA Novosti, the New York Times reported that Ukrainian special services have claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Moscow, in which the commander of the Russian army's chemical, biological, and radiological defense forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, and his deputy were killed. An unnamed official from the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said that Kyiv considered Kirillov a "legitimate target."

The New York Times reported that it had obtained an audio recording from the SBU showing two people leaving the building just before the explosion. The New York Times article stated that the location and time of what was happening in the video allegedly matched data about the terrorist attack; a scooter was “visible” in the footage.

Reuters had previously reported on December 17th, citing a source, that Ukrainian special services were behind the assassination of General Kirillov.

Regarding this incident, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that the US is not believed to have been involved in the terrorist attack targeting Russian General Kirilov.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the US statement was "ridiculous." "Washington has never condemned the terrorist attacks by Kyiv," Zakharova told TASS.

Lieutenant General Kirilov is a prominent figure in Russia's special operations. At briefings, he accused the US, other Western countries, and Kyiv of preparing provocative actions using toxic substances and planning to create a "dirty bomb" to discredit Russia. Each of Kirilov's speeches was based on solid evidence and supported by documents.

In addition, this general is also one of the creators of the Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus.
