Disciplinary action taken against a group of commune officials involved in gambling for money.

On the afternoon of October 7th, the People's Committee of Huong Thuy Town (Thua Thien Hue province) announced that after verification, they had decided to discipline five officials working at the People's Committee of Thuy Phu commune in connection with a citizen's complaint about gambling for money.

Accordingly, a resident of Thuy Phu commune filed a complaint accompanied by a video clip showing several officials of Thuy Phu commune gambling for money in the commune's militia office.

Upon verification, Mr. Phan Viet Tang, former head of the militia in Thuy Phu commune, after witnessing commune officials gambling for money in the militia office, used his mobile phone to record a video and then provided it to the people to report the incident.

After verification, the Inspection Committee of the Huong Thuy Town Party Committee clarified that in December 2015, four commune officials participated in gambling for money, specifically playing the card game "phỏm," at the commune's militia headquarters in Thuy Phu commune. These officials were: Mr. Phan Van Tri, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Thuy Phu commune; Mr. Le Huu Tri, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune; Mr. Ngo Viet Vinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune; and Mr. Ngo Xuan Thu, Head of the Thuy Phu Commune Police.

Five officials from Thuy Phu commune have been disciplined, including the official who filmed the video to give to residents for reporting wrongdoing.

It is known that after reporting the incident, Mr. Phan Viet Tang submitted his resignation. Currently, Mr. Thu and Mr. Tri have been disciplined with a warning. Mr. Tri and Mr. Vinh have been disciplined with a reprimand. Mr. Tang himself (the person who filmed the gambling video clip) has also been disciplined with a warning.
