Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Tran Huu Thung.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of August 5th, in Dien Chau district, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association organized a ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Tran Huu Thung (1923 - 2023).

Attending the program were Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu – President of the Vietnam Writers Association and members of the Association's delegation.

Representing Nghe An province were Comrade Vo Van Dung - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; leaders of the Nghe An Provincial Association of Literature and Arts; the Dien Chau District Branch of the Association of Literature and Arts; artists from within and outside the province; and members of the family of poet Tran Huu Thung.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee introduced the life and creative career of poet Tran Huu Thung. According to the introduction, poet Tran Huu Thung was born on July 26, 1923, in Dien Minh commune (now Minh Chau commune), Dien Chau district, Nghe An province. He was a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a member of the Vietnam Writers Association since 1957. He passed away on July 31, 1999.

From 1944 to 1948, he participated in the Viet Minh, serving as Chairman of the Commune Administrative Committee and Head of the Commune Military Committee. From 1948 to 1952, he worked as a cultural and artistic officer for the Cultural Subcommittee of Inter-Region IV. From 1952 to 1953, he was a propaganda officer in Thanh Hoa.

From 1954 to 1956, he was an officer at the Propaganda Department of Inter-Region IV; in charge of the Arts and Literature Branch of Inter-Region IV. From 1957 to 1959, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association. From 1962 to 1965, he was an officer at the Arts and Literature Department of the Central Propaganda Committee. From 1965 to 1986, he was the Chairman of the Nghe Tinh Arts and Literature Association.

Many of his works have been published: "August Fields" (a poetry collection that won second prize in the poetry competition of the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts in 1954-1955), "Advice to My Child" (poetry - 1955), "That Autumn Day" (poetry 1957), "South Wind" (poetry - 1962), "Hai Tô's Folk Song" (poetry - 1961), "Sister Nguyen Thi Minh Khai" (poetry - 1961), "My Homeland" (poetry - 1971), "The Sound of Birds in the Fields" (poetry - 1975), "The Road and the Fields" (poetry), "The Whistle's Whistle" (poetry), "He's Still Marching" (anthology of poems - 1983), "Lotus in Uncle Ho's Homeland" (poetry - 1985).

Prose works: “That Day by the Lam River” (film script – 1980), “Memories of the Rice Fields” (essay – 1988, won first prize in the essay contest organized by the Literature and Arts Newspaper and the Voice of Vietnam Radio), “Memories of Hunting” (1966). Essays: “I Write Folk Songs” (1959), “Lullaby” (1975). Literary collections: “Folk Songs about Uncle Ho”, “Literary Anecdotes in Nghe Tinh”.

For his contributions, poet Tran Huu Thung was honored with the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2001.

Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu – President of the Vietnam Writers Association – assessed the career and contributions of poet Tran Huu Thung to literature and the revolution. He affirmed that Tran Huu Thung's works have enduring value for life…

On this occasion, leaders of the Nghe An Literature and Arts Association, leaders of Dien Chau district, writers, poets, and representatives of their families gave speeches, shared their thoughts, and thanked the Vietnam Writers Association for organizing this solemn, warm, and meaningful commemorative ceremony.
