100th anniversary of the birth of poet Tran Huu Thung
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of August 5, in Dien Chau district, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association held a ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Tran Huu Thung (1923 - 2023).
Attending the program were Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association and members of the Writers Association's working delegation.
On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Vo Van Dung - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; leaders of the Nghe An Provincial Literature and Arts Association; Dien Chau District Literature and Arts Association, artists inside and outside the province and family members of poet Tran Huu Thung.
At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee introduced the life and creative process of poet Tran Huu Thung. Accordingly, poet Tran Huu Thung was born on July 26, 1923, in Dien Minh commune (now Minh Chau commune), Dien Chau district, Nghe An. He was a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam; a member of the Vietnam Writers Association since 1957. He passed away on July 31, 1999.
From 1944 to 1948 he joined the Viet Minh, was Chairman of the Commune Administrative Committee, Head of the Commune Military Committee. From 1948 to 1952 he worked as a cultural and artistic officer of the Cultural Subcommittee of Inter-Zone IV. From 1952 to 1953 he was a propaganda officer in Thanh Hoa.
From 1954 to 1956, he was an officer of the Propaganda Department of Inter-Zone IV; in charge of the Literary and Arts Association of Inter-Zone IV. From 1957 to 1959, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association. From 1962 to 1965, he was an officer of the Literature and Arts Department of the Central Propaganda Department. From 1965 to 1986, he was Chairman of the Nghe Tinh Literary and Arts Association.
Many of his works have been published: “August Fields” (a collection of poems that won the Second Prize in Poetry of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association 1954 – 1955), “Advice to My Children” (poetry – 1955), “That Autumn Day” (poetry 1957), “South Wind” (poetry – 1962), “Hai To Ho Khoan” (poetry – 1961), “Chi Nguyen Thi Minh Khai” (poetry – 1961), “My Homeland” (poetry – 1971), “The Sound of Field Birds” (poetry – 1975), “The Road and Field Surface” (poetry), “The Whistle’s Advice” (poetry), “I Still March” (collection of poems – 1983), “Uncle’s Homeland Lotus” (poetry – 1985).
Prose works: “That Day by the Lam River” (film script – 1980), “Memories of the Rice Fields” (memoir – 1988, won first prize in the memoir contest organized by the Literature and Arts Newspaper and the Voice of Vietnam Radio), “Memories of Hunting” (1966). Essays: “I Make Folk Songs” (1959), “Lullaby” (1975). Literature collections: “Folk Songs About Uncle Ho”, “Literary Anecdotes in Nghe Tinh”.
For his contributions, poet Tran Huu Thung was honored to be awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2001.
Speaking at the ceremony, Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu – Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association evaluated the career and contributions of poet Tran Huu Thung to literature and the revolution. In particular, he affirmed that Tran Huu Thung’s works have eternal value to life…
On this occasion, leaders of Nghe An Literature and Arts Association, leaders of Dien Chau district, writers, poets and family representatives expressed their opinions, shared and thanked the Vietnam Writers Association for organizing a solemn, warm and meaningful celebration.
